Kerik Fails the Hypocrisy Test

Is anybody surprised that Bush's nominee to head up Homeland Security employed an illegal immigrant at his house?

In an interview yesterday, former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik said he had recently discovered financial records "that led me to question the tax filings regarding a housekeeper and nanny that was employed by me in my house, a very nice woman, a very good woman, someone who loves my children and they love her." I am tempted to wonder what it is that makes conservatives love the immigrants they employ, but despise those they don't. Then I remember that it's not the immigrant they love, but the unbeatable savings offered by employees who don't have the rights to demand benefits or minimum wage.

Strange as it may seem, I bet the administration is breathing a sigh of relief right now. That Kerik balked in the face of such a relatively minor hypocrisy proves that he just doesn't have the stuff to be a BushCorp exec. No one else in the administration believes they have to obey the law, nor do they apologize when they brazenly break it to the detriment of the nation's and the world's citizens. Nope, a Bush man needs to look directly in they eye of thousands of deaths and unimaginable, unquantifiable suffering and say, "Mission accomplished! No new taxes! Freedom is on the march! We keep you safe! Be very afraid - terror is everywhere!"
