Then there was just fear to fall back on...

Did anyone hear any new proposals from Bush at last night's debate? The best the monkey could do was try and scare voters with the usual keywords: "liberal" "rationing" "taxes" "Kennedy" ... Then there were the new tests that voters are supposed to fear - the global test and the litmus test.

What was Bush going to say? "Aren't things awesome? Four more years!"

Or, as the American Progress Action Fund put it in today's newsletter, the President can't even make any promises other than the ones he's already broken on fiscal responsibility, health care, higher education, assault weapons and middle class tax relief.
