Bush Does No Right

Running up to the debate, there have been many attempts to turn the flip-flop label back on George Bush.

Yesterday, John Edwards did so explicity on the Imus show.

"When [Cheney] was asked why they didn't finish the job in Iraq . . . he talked about the enormous danger and risk of getting bogged down, of having to govern the country. Of the casualties that would be incurred. To use some of the same language these people have used against John, he was against getting bogged down in Iraq before he was for it."

As the Center for American Progress shows here, it’s not too difficult.

Bush has reversed himself on everything from the issue of diverting water from the Great Lakes to the creation of the Homeland Security Department and our ability to win the war on terror.

But his reputation as a stay-the-courser has clearly been burnished on two issues – Iraq and Tax Cuts.

William Saletan demonstrates the absurdness of this steadfastness, and how quickly it’s leading the president from reality.
